Whilst Estimating is clearly a vital process in winning work, it can also be a very resource-intensive process that frequently has a relatively low percentage success rate. At the same time, any errors in the estimating process can have catastrophic effects on the profitability of a project.

Taking measures to expedite tender preparation with greater accuracy to win more work at the right price therefore makes sound commercial sense. In parallel, the ability to adjudicate tenders before submission and manage change enable you to control costs with greater confidence.

Recognition of these and other benefits have led many construction contractors to upgrade their tendering processes with the help of Causeway Estimating, often alongside CAD Measure for automated take-off.

Crucially, Causeway Estimating has been developed through close liaison with estimators. Oliver West, Quantity Surveyor with Vale Builders Southern observed:

“From the way the system is configured it is clear that Causeway has worked closely with contractors, understands their requirements and has designed the software to be easy to use.”

It also facilitates management of sub-contractors, as Halsall’s Estimating Manager Matthew Stringer recalled: “One of the main issues we faced was that it was difficult and time-consuming to issue enquiries to sub-contractors and compare the quotes when they were returned to us. Causeway Estimating enables us to do this very quickly and saves on re-keying of information, so that turnaround of tenders is quicker.
“It also makes life easier for our sub-contractors; they are able to respond to our enquiries faster and as a result, the bids that we put forward are based on real-time costs rather than historical data,” he added.

These are just four of the benefits that Estimating and CADMeasure can deliver:

1. Cut tender enquiry costs by up to 50% compared to traditional methods, while also enhancing accuracy.

2. Take advantage of the calculation functionality within Excel to perform complex calculations or change formulae, with automatic updating of the estimate using the dynamic links between Estimating and Excel.

3. Optimise use of available resources by working within a true multi-user environment, so that several people can work on the same estimate at the same time, from different locations.

4. Measure directly, and generate Bills of Quantity, from drawings in 2D/PDF or 3D; or directly from Building Information Models. Use automated features such as extraction of quantities and properties, as well as scheduled measurements of like items.
