Skanska is a leading construction and development company. They are currently working on the M42 Junction 6 project, building a new slip road at Junction 5a to reduce traffic congestion and improve the local road network.

The Challenge

Managing the administrative burden of inducting and verifying the competencies of a large workforce was a significant challenge for Skanska.

Up to 30 operatives came on-site at a time, each potentially carrying multiple cards to verify their qualifications, making the process time-consuming and paper-intensive.

The Solution

Skanska implemented Highways Passport, a Causeway SkillGuard system, to streamline its workforce management. This digital platform serves as a one-stop shop for recording and verifying all necessary worker competencies and medical checks.

By moving away from paper-based records to a digital system, Skanska significantly reduced the time and effort required for workforce administration."

"The future with Passport, what we all want is for everybody to turn up at site, fit to work, safe to work, and understanding all the standards and rules that need to be applied in their workplace, and that is what Passport gives us. I can see the future being bigger and better."

Liz Brathwaite, Highways Health and Safety Lead - Skanska

The Outcome

The Highways Passport system has saved Skanska an average of eight to twelve hours per week in administrative tasks for the office team on just that one site.

The ability to log in and instantly access all necessary worker information has eliminated the need for extensive paperwork. Additionally, the system provides a quick and efficient method for recording start-of-shift briefings and toolbox talks, and it includes a messaging function for instant communication of safety alerts.
