We're excited to announce the launch of our new podcast, Deconstructing Digital, aimed at lifting the lid on digital transformation in the built environment.
Ahead of the first episode, we sat down with host Amelia Fletcher-Blackburn, Enterprise Client Delivery Partner at Causeway, to find out more about what listeners can expect.
What do you hope listeners will get out of the podcast?
I hope listeners walk away with a clear understanding of what it really means to digitalise a business in the built environment. It’s not just about challenges - it’s about the opportunities. Whether it’s improving efficiency, quality, safety, or reducing environmental impact, I want to give people practical tips and tricks they can use to succeed in their digital journey. I also want listeners to understand how to articulate and quantify what they want to achieve through digitalisation so they can maximise and really realise the benefits.
What does the title Deconstructing Digital mean to you?
For me, the title reflects breaking down the complexities of digital transformation into manageable, bite-sized pieces. I think change can feel overwhelming, even scary at times, but by breaking it down into building blocks, it becomes achievable. It’s about deconstructing the problem and offering practical ways to tackle it.
What inspired you to be the host?
I love learning and taking on new challenges! This podcast felt like the perfect way to push myself whilst helping change the industry for the better. I’m also passionate about encouraging more thought leadership in the built environment. We have so many brilliant minds in our industry, and I want to shine a spotlight on them and the incredible work they are doing to revolutionise the built environment so we can all move forward together.
What do you bring to the podcast?
I bring a genuine thirst for learning. What I’ve loved most about hosting the podcast so far is how much I’m learning from our guests. I try to ask thoughtful, probing questions to bring out deeper insights and experiences that I hope our listeners will love.
What topics excite you the most?
I’m particularly excited about exploring how businesses can truly make digital technology work for them. It’s one thing to choose a piece of tech, but without creating an environment and culture that embraces it, you won’t see its full potential. It’s about helping people ensure their digital investments deliver real value.
What is your professional super power?
I’m a good listener and I pride myself on creating environments where people feel respected, supported, and empowered to thrive. My superpower is getting the best out of people and that’s already coming in handy on Deconstruction Digital!
What has been your biggest career challenge?
Returning to work after maternity leave was a huge personal challenge. You come back as a completely different person with new priorities. Reconciling that with your professional self is a big adjustment. I was fortunate to have amazing personal and professional support, but no one really prepares you for how transformative that experience can be.
Do you have a secret skill?
I’m surprisingly good at eating chicken wings! I actually won a hot wing eating competition at a Wings Fest in London. It was hilarious—and a little painful—but definitely something I’m oddly proud of!
If you could host a podcast with anyone, who would it be?
I’d love to co-host one with my mum. She passed away a little over a year ago, and it would be so meaningful to have her joining me in asking questions of our guests. She was an English teacher, very analytical and always had a way of getting the most out of people. It would be brilliant to have a different background and perspective, to help extract the nuggets of information from our guests.
What are three things that bring you joy?
Family, food, and fitness with a little wine on the side. And yes, hot wings definitely fit into the food category!
How has hosting the podcast been so far?
I absolutely love it. From reciting intros in the car to prepping questions at night, it’s been intense, but stepping outside my comfort zone has been so rewarding. I’ve learned so much, and the guests we have brought on have been phenomenal. They’ve given me insights I’d never even considered—like using AI to make buildings more sustainable or the infrastructure challenges around EV forklifts. It’s been a real privilege to have these conversations.
