Introduction to PDS — Part 1

Drainage Engineering For Beginners

This training course is designed for anyone new to storm or foul water drainage design and analysis in the UK. It is also useful for engineers seeking to update their knowledge and industry best practices.
The course will cover the latest requirements from legislations, regulations, standards and guidance to design a drainage network. We will use Causeway’s drainage design software, Flow, to design an optimal and cost-effective drainage system whilst satisfying the latest requirements. A series of exercises based around real world examples will be used to familiarise new ideas throughout the course.
Prerequisites: No applied knowledge of Flow or Fundamental understanding of drainage design is required. The latest version of Causeway Flow installed and tested. Supplied data files installed and supplied notes printed.

Fundamental Drainage Design

Advanced Drainage Design

Graphical Drainage Design

This course is designed for engineers who are looking to learn how to deploy SmartTools to effectively and successfully tackle more challenging graphical design problems and attain smooth drawing productions. Providing a good practical knowledge of advanced graphical drainage design, we will explore how to significantly simplify the iterative design cycle, reducing errors, saving time, increasing productivity and profitability.

Causeway Flow users involved in the UK drainage design market, including drainage design engineers, housebuilders, approving authorities and highway engineers, will gain a comprehensive knowledge in graphical drainage design and achieve a working knowledge of the strengths and capabilities of SmartTools.
Auditing Drainage Design Submissions

This course provides all the essential expertise required to audit any drainage network or achieve a compliant drainage design. We will look at how to audit any drainage network for compliance with UK Specific requirements such as: DCG, local standards, SfA, the Interim Code of Practice for SuDS, the SuDS manual C753, Climate Change and Exceedance.
The course will provide a good practical knowledge of both traditional drainage and a SuDS design approach whilst looking at how to evaluate the impact of new developments on existing catchments. As part of the audit we will explore pre-development runoff calculations, Storage estimation, SuDS feasibility assessment & outline design, hydraulic analysis against extreme events and a series of 17 automated tests ranging from manhole energy losses to discharge volume.
Prerequisites: No previous knowledge of Flow is required. The latest version of Causeway Flow installed and tested. Supplied data files installed and supplied notes printed.
Audience: This course is designed for Approving Authorities in the UK who want to effectively deploy Causeway Flow to carry out checking and auditing for compliance of both traditional drainage and SuDS networks submissions. It is also useful for engineering consultants, civil engineers and developers who want to gain an understanding of the approval process of drainage networks whilst achieving an optimal and value engineered design.
